If I were a newspaper writer and I was working on a feature story, I would be more likely to add photos with videos if I was working on something like a car video. Cars have lots of photos to go with them, which is important. For example, some automotive publications feature a few dozen photos or so with instrumental music such as guitar and drums, and the like. That is an example of where it would be appropriate with that.
I would not do multimedia journalism if the case calls for words to tell a story. For example, when covering an event, a photo or two can help, but would not be appropriate for covering, say when Jon Delano came from KDKA news to talk about the results of primary elections of 2014. Even a podcast would not fit the bill, because a traditional hard news story style would only be appropriate. This is because what Delano says is more important than showing pictures of him addressing the crowd. The same goes for when the History Club has speakers come for the history roundtable meeting.
Something I recently viewed a video for was for a job that I just applied for, and instead of having applicants check out a FAQ section, they just made a video with last year's staff, photos, and some contemporary song. I did not recognize the song, but it was effective enough to get the point across to the potential job applicants.
